Commercial sex worker docked over recharge cards theft

A 38-year-old commercial sex worker, Sarah Pam, has been arraigned before a Jos Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing recharge cards worth N135, 000 from her customer.
The defendant of Dogon Dutse, Jos, was charged with theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Umar Mukaila, told the court that one Samson Daru of Tafawa Balewa, Jos, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Jos on June 8.
Mukaila told the court that the complainant took the defendant to Piye Hotel, located at West of Mines, Jos.

He took the defendant to the hotel after they had an agreement that he will pay her N5,000 for the night. The complainant went out in the morning to use his ATM and withdraw to pay her; and when he returned he discovered that his recharge cards that were kept in his bag were missing,” he said.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime, adding that the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the defendant is liable to a prison term of up to seven years or an option of fine or both. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The magistrate, Mrs Oluwatoyin Mafuyai , admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Mafuyai said that the sureties must have landed property within Jos Metropolis and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

She adjourned the matter till June 27 for hearing.
