Editors Lab – Vanguard hackdays begins tomorrow


The much anticipated Nigeria’s edition of Editors Lab hackdays by the Global Editors Network, GEN, will commence tomorrow  at the corporate head office of  one of Nigeria’s leading newspapers, Vanguard newspaper, Lagos.



Journalists, web designers, developers and other media practitioners from top media houses,including  ThisDay, Daily Trust, The Nation, The Nigerian Tribune, Channels Television,  TVC, Tell Magazine,  The News, Leadership,  The  Sun newspapers, Nigerian Info Radio and Premium Times will participate  in the two-day event.  Participants are also expected  from  the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University and the  Mass Communication Department, University of Lagos.

The event, sponsored by Google, will gather around teams representing a variety of media platforms (print, digital, broadcast), to develop digital tools for journalists with the theme.” New ways to cover elections online and through social media.”

According to GEN, each team will include a journalist, a developer and a designer, who will strive to build a working prototype of a news application or digital service during the event.

According to the organiser, no previous work or preparation is needed for participating in the event to be hosted by Vanguard newspaper.
The Editors’ Lab is a worldwide series of hackdays hosted by some of the world’s leading newsrooms, which concludes in an international two-day final Hackathon at the GEN Summit, on 11 to 13 June in Barcelona, Spain.
It aims at directly addressing the need for more collaborative innovation in newsrooms, facilitating the generation of new ideas while providing best practice mentoring from industry leaders.
